Staying Informed: Questions Welcome Here

We encourage our patients to ask questions because the answers can lead to more informed discussions and smarter decisions.

Patients are used to answering their doctor's questions but are often hesitant to ask any of their own. At Dallas Neurosurgical and Spine (DNS), we believe that questions can lead to more informed discussions and smarter decisions.

That’s why we do everything we can to encourage our patients to stay involved and informed. We welcome questions. And make every effort to explain each aspect of our thinking thoroughly.

“Every patient that leaves my office knows what I believe is their smartest option going forward and why I believe it,” explained Michael Desaloms, a neurosurgeon with DNS since 1998. “It’s their body and it’s critically important that they clearly understand what’s going on.”

“I encourage and initiate discussion about every diagnosis and every proposed surgery I recommend,” added Dr. Jackson. “I talk through the entire process from beginning to end so that a patient and their family understands everything they should know.”

“I make sure all of my patients feel comfortable asking me any question they might have,” Dr. Weiner said. “But sometimes people mind’s go blank. I would suggest prioritizing a list of questions. Write them down. I promise you that everyone here looks forward to answering them. My patients ask me great questions,” he added.

We’ve compiled the following list of sample questions you should consider asking during your consultation.

  • What is my diagnosis?
  • What are my treatment options?
  • What are the most effect non-surgical ways to treat my condition?
  • What are the benefits of each option?
  • What do you recommend and why?
  • What is the natural course of my condition if it is not surgically addressed?
  • What expectations do you have for my recovery?
  • Will I need a test? What is the test for? What will the results tell me?
  • Will I need to change my daily routine?
