Aimee Burchfield

Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (ALIF) and Posterior Spinal Fusion (PSF) Patient Story

Aimee was first diagnosed with scoliosis in the eighth grade. At the time of diagnosis, nighttime bracing was recommended as a conservative treatment approach. Despite this, she continued to experience longstanding pain, along with numbness radiating down her left shin when standing – symptoms that gradually became more difficult to manage. Her spinal curvature progressed to 60 degrees, indicating a severe case of scoliosis requiring surgical intervention.

After a thorough evaluation, Dr. Taub recommended surgical correction of the scoliosis. On May 4, 2022, Aimee underwent a complex spinal fusion procedure that included L2-S1 anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) and posterior spinal fusion from T6 to the pelvis. The surgery was successful, and following a structured rehabilitation process, Aimee made a full recovery within one year.

A positive outcome

Hi there! Long time no see! I just wanted to check in and share how I’ve been doing. It’s been three years since my surgery, and not a day goes by that I don’t thank God for all of you—especially Dr. Taub. Life is going great, and I’m feeling even better!

We just got back from a camping trip that involved a six-hour drive each way, and I handled it without any problems. Before surgery, I could barely make it 30 minutes! My daughters are doing well, and my oldest is about to start high school—time flies.

I think about you all often and just wanted to reach out and say hello. Hope you’re all doing well!
